How Eyes See
A gentle encyclopedia-style picture book for preschoolers that explains, step by step, how eyes see: light, cornea, pupil, lens, retina, optic nerve, and brain. Friendly characters guide the child through simple observations and helpful tips.
This is Little Eye. Let's learn how eyes see things.
Light comes from the sun or a lamp. Light travels in straight lines to our eyes.
Light enters the eye through the clear front called the cornea. The cornea helps bend the light a little.
The black circle in the eye is the pupil. The pupil opens and closes to let in more or less light.
Behind the pupil there is a lens. The lens focuses light to make a small picture inside the eye.
The back of the eye is the retina. Tiny cells on the retina see colors and light.
The optic nerve is like a little cord. It carries the picture from the eye to the brain.
The brain looks at the picture and understands what we see. Now we know how eyes help us notice the world!
Eyes help us see people, toys, and colors. Take care of your eyes: rest and wear sunglasses in bright sun.
